A representative for rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers has revealed intestinal flu forced singer Anthony Kiedis to pull out of a performance in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The band had to scrap a set at the KROQ Weenie Roast festival when Kiedis experienced “extreme stomach pain” and was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

His bandmates took to the stage to announce they would not be performing as scheduled and Weezer took over their headlining spot.

Bass player Flea explained, “We will be playing for you very soon, and we will play for you like the feral animals full of love that we are.”

The band has also issued a statement via its website to announce a scheduled iHeart Radio performance on May 17 has been canceled, explaining the singer was hospitalized due to “complications from the intestinal flu,” but he is expected to make a a full recovery.
