It’s always special to capture an important milestone on video, especially from a baby. This particular baby may only be minutes old, but she is already taking over the internet.
A video of a newborn baby girl from Brazil “walking” was posted on Facebook by Arlete Arantes and it has gone massively viral. Since being published on May 25, the video has been viewed over 94 million times.
“This is amazing. A baby walks just after being born,” Arlete Arantes wrote on Facebook, according to a translation.
In the video, the newborn is being held up by a nurse and moving her legs forward. Thus, she is giving off the appearance that she is walking.
Check it out below.
“Oh my gosh, the girl is walking. Good gracious!” the nurse cries out according to The Sun’s translation.
The nurses in the room were in awe and kept calling in others to view the one-of-a-kind moment.
The nurse explained that she was just trying to give the baby a bath, but she kept moving her legs to “walk.”
“Merciful father. I was trying to wash her here and she keeps getting up to walk,” the nurse said according to The Sun. “She has walked from here to here.”
Since babies do not normally walk until they are around 12 months old, many people are calling this child a “miracle baby.” However, many scientists were quick to respond to the video explaining that this phenomenon is not uncommon.
According to Stanford Children’s Health, the “walking” is called “newborn reflexes.”
“Reflexes are involuntary movements or actions. Some movements are spontaneous, occurring as part of the baby’s usual activity,” Stanford Children’s Health wrote on their website. “Others are responses to certain actions. Reflexes help identify normal brain and nerve activity.”
Regardless of the reflexes, the “miracle baby” has already made quite the impression around the world!
