Ben McKenzie Engaged to Morena Baccarin
New parents Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin have become engaged. The Gotham co-stars became romantically linked in July 2015, just weeks after Baccarin’s ex, director/producer Austin Chick, filed to end the former couple’s three-year marriage.
In court papers lodged two months later, Baccarin revealed she was pregnant with McKenzie’s baby and shared her intention to wed the former The O.C. actor. The 37-year-old stated, “Today, I am in a new committed relationship. I am planning to re-marry. Also, I am three and a half months pregnant.” McKenzie and Baccarin welcomed daughter Frances Laiz Setta Schenkkan in March 2016, and on Monday, the new mom showed off what appeared to be an engagement ring – a pear cut diamond on her left ring finger – as the couple attended the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City. The private pair did not comment on the rumored engagement at the event, but a source tells Us Weekly the stars are “very happily engaged.” The marriage will be McKenzie’s first. Baccarin finalized her divorce from Chick earlier this year, but is still fighting him over custody of their son Julius, 3. They had originally agreed to joint legal custody of Julius while Baccarin would have primary physical custody, but the arrangement hit a setback when Chick moved from New York, where the actress lives, to Los Angeles. Baccarin reportedly asked Chick for his permission to take their son to Brazil to visit her dying grandmother in October, but he refused due to his concerns about the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne virus which can cause birth defect microcephaly, among other symptoms. According to TMZ, Baccarin filed paperwork earlier this month, asking a judge to issue an order to force Chick to let them go, as the child’s pediatrician agreed the virus is “not a concern” for him.
