Beverly Johnson: ‘I Forgive Bill Cosby’
Former supermodel Beverly Johnson has overcome her feelings of resentment toward Bill Cosby after he allegedly attempted to drug her decades ago, insisting she forgives him.
The beauty became one of the 78-year-old comedian’s most high-profile accusers when in December 2014 she detailed her own encounter with Cosby in the 1980s for a Vanity Fair article. In the piece, she claimed the actor had tried to drug her by reportedly slipping something into her coffee during a visit to his California home while she auditioned for a part in his sitcom, The Cosby Show. After realizing something wasn’t right, Johnson flew into a rage and hurled expletives at the veteran TV star for his alleged bad behavior, prompting him to forcibly kick her out of his house and bundle her into a taxi. Johnson has detailed the alleged encounter, one of the many accusations piling up against the funnyman, in her new autobiography, The Face That Changed It All: A Memoir, and now she insists she is no longer angry. Asked what she would tell Cosby during an interview on Good Morning America Wednesday, Johnson simply said, “I forgive you.” The retired supermodel didn’t expand on her comment, and although she declined to speculate on what his punishment should be, preferring to “leave that to the justice department”, she hopes the Cosby controversy will lead to some good. Johnson added, “I just feel that he’s a lightening rod for a much bigger conversation and that conversation would be the rape culture in America.” More than 50 women in the past year have come forward with decades-old claims of being drugged, sexually assaulted and raped by Cosby, but his lawyers have dismissed most of the accusations and the star has never faced criminal charges over the allegations. However, Cosby is facing legal action over model Chloe Goins’ statements accusing him of taking advantage of the then-teenager at the Playboy Mansion in California in 2008. The embattled comedian is scheduled to be deposed next month in what will be the first time he has spoken about a sex claim against him in a decade. He settled a previous case out of court in 2005.
