Brad Pitt and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Tony Kushner are teaming up to adapt mental illness novel He Wanted the Moon for the big screen.

Pitt and his Plan B company will produce the project while Kushner, who penned Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln and AIDS drama Angels in America, will adapt the book by Mimi Baird and Eve Claxton.

He Wanted the Moon: The Madness and Medical Genius of Dr. Perry Baird and His Daughter’s Quest to Know Him, is a memoir as told by Baird, the daughter of Dr. Baird. In the tome, she tells the story of her father’s battle with depression, as he suffered through dangerous treatments such as being straitjacketed and lobotomized to help “cure” his mental illness in the 1930s and 1940s.

Baird also recounts her own fight to help get her father the overdue credit she believed he deserved from the scientific community as well as her efforts to give a voice to those dealing with mental illness.
