Brazilian Judge Orders Ryan Lochte to Give Up Passport Over Armed Robbery Drama
A Brazilian judge has ordered Olympian Ryan Lochte to hand over his passport amid allegations he lied about an armed robbery in Rio over the weekend. The swimmer/model and three teammates were allegedly held up by thugs dressed up as police officials in the city on Sunday as they made their way back to the Olympic Village from a shopping trip.
“They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground – they got down on the ground. I refused,” Lochte told Today. “I was like, ‘We didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not getting on the ground.'” “The guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, ‘Get down’, and I put my hands up.” “I was like, ‘Whatever.’ He took our money, he took my wallet. He left my cell phone, he left my credentials.” United States Olympic Committee (USOC) spokesperson Patrick Sandusky later confirmed the report after Lochte’s coach, David Marsh, and representatives for the International Olympic Committee initially denied it. Now it seems the claims are in question again because Judge Keyla Blanc De cnop has “ordered the dispatch of search warrants and seizure of passports of American swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen,” prohibiting the athletes from leaving the country. According to TMZ, authorities have stated there are contradictions in the swimmers’ stories. However, Lochte’s attorney, Jeff Ostrow, says he has “no information from Brazilian authorities that they want his passport.” “I’m shocked to hear that they would go to such measures in an effort to further investigate the incident as he has been nothing but cooperative with authorities, including sitting for a full interview with the Tourist Police, U.S. State Department, USOC Security, FBI, and anyone else that requested to be present,” he adds. Ostrow also revealed the Olympian is already “safely back in the United States.” Feigen’s whereabouts are unknown.
