Cher to receive Icon honor at Billboard Music Awards Cher is to be honored with the Billboard Music Awards’ Icon prize.


The “Strong Enough” singer announced on Twitter on Wednesday night that she is to be the sixth recipient of the Icon Award, which was first created in 2011 in recognition of “lifetime achievement and an artist’s remarkable and enduring contribution to popular music.” “OH …Am Getting Billboard Icon Award,” she casually tweeted. To mark the special occasion, the veteran star will perform her classic 1998 hit “Believe” at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 21. It will be her first awards show performance in more than 15 years, according to The Associated Press. The 70-year-old, who follows in the footsteps of previous recipients Prince, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez and Celine Dion, is currently in Sin City as part of her residency at the Park Theater at the Monte Carlo Hotel & Casino. The first run finishes on May 20, the night before the ceremony. She joins other performers which include Drake, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Lorde, Nicki Minaj, and John Legend, among others. The Chainsmokers lead the nominations with 15, shortly followed by Drake with 13.
