Movie star Chris Evans insists he has every right to voice his opinion on politics after critics blasted President Donald Trump’s picks for chief strategist, national security adviser, and Attorney General in February.

The Captain America star took aim at former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke after he wrote a post on his website approving of Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn, and Jeff Sessions as Trump’s choices, suggesting the trio would help “take America back.”

Evans insisted Duke was wrong, tweeting: “If David Duke….DAVID!…DUKE!… thinks you’re right, then you are unequivocally wrong.” Duke fired back, responding with, “Typical dumb actor — if everything I say is wrong, then when I say I oppose these Zionists wars, you must be for them, Captain America!?” The feud continued as Evans replied by linking Duke to a list of his apparently racist and homophobic quotes and added, “@DrDavidDuke well if these nuggets of bigotry are some of your OTHER thoughts, then I stand by my original tweet,” adding, “We can’t let hatred be the loudest voice.” The exchange earned Evans praise and criticism on Twitter, with some Conservatives suggesting Evans should stick to making movies and leave the politics to the politicians. Addressing the February Twitter feud during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday, Evans said, “It’s tricky sometimes because actors in general have a hard time, it’s tricky because no one wants to hear from you. “It’s easy to think we’re out of touch and elite, which is potentially true, but, look, I was a human being a lot longer. I was a citizen before I was an actor. I spent a lot of time being not famous and I still feel like I have a right to express my opinion. I don’t live the same life that certain people do and you gotta acknowledge that, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get a chance to express what I think too.”
