Daniel Craig ‘Done’ With James Bond Franchise
Daniel Craig has reportedly turned down a $99 million (£68 million) offer to reprise his role as James Bond. The 48-year-old actor played the spy in 2006’s Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace in 2008, Skyfall in 2012 and last year’s Spectre.
However, amid speculation as to whether he would return to playing 007, it has now been claimed the actor has decided he is “done” with the franchise. “Daniel is done – pure and simple – he told top brass at MGM after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted,” a movie source in Los Angeles told Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper. “He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal.” The deal allegedly saw Craig offered a staggering $99 million – which included profit shares, endorsements and a co-producer role – to return to another two films. But after suffering a knee injury while filming a fight scene in Spectre, Craig is said to have decided that he would bid the role farewell. “With knee problems and general exhaustion, he felt it was a journey with an ending,” the source added. And studio bosses apparently eventually agreed with Craig’s decision, after “growing tired” of his criticism of the franchise. The actor hit headlines last year when he said he would rather “slash my wrists” than agree to reprise the role of the super spy for another film. He later said he was contracted for a fifth film, and had agreed to do it “for the money.” It remains to be seen who will take on the role of 007 following Craig’s reported departure. Tom Hiddleston is currently the favorite to be announced as his replacement, with bookmakers in Britain calling off bets on the 35-year-old landing the role. Other names linked to the part include Idris Elba, Damian Lewis and Tom Hardy.
