Another GoFundMe goes viral and achieves success — but this one was a bit unorthodox.

Demetrios Hrysikos from Spartanburg, SC created a GoFundMe titled “Help Protect Betty White from 2016” and it exceeded its goal.

However, the cause was not defending the elderly, famous actress. The donations actually went towards to the local arts — and it worked.

On Tuesday, hours after actress Carrie Fischer died, Hrysikos started the fundraiser in light of the numerous celebrity deaths in 2016. In less than one day, the $2,000 goal was exceeded.

Although Hrysikos wrote that he would fly to wherever White was and personally protect her from 2016, he also noted that if White refused his guarding — which she probably would — then the proceeds will go towards the Spartanburg Little Theater.

“We need new artists to carry the mantel of all the great ones we lost this year so keep sharing and donating to ensure a better 2017 for the arts,” wrote Hrysikos.

How will a theater keep White from the clutches of the Grim Reaper? Well, it wouldn’t, because the fundraiser was entirely intended to support local arts and protecting White from death was just a fun ploy.

The Spartanburg Little Theater thanked Hrysikos on Facebook for the fundraiser. The general consensus is that White, Fischer and even David Bowie would be happy about the misleading yet noble effort.

The arts can promote positive change for youth, culture, economy, the work-place, veterans and even poverty, according to Americans for the Arts.
