These 1980s Toys Are a Blast From the Past

The 1980s were an iconic time for toys.

The markets for action figures and dolls — especially for those based on television or film properties — exploded, with numerous properties becoming massive pop cultural fads. In addition, the then nascent video game industry pulled itself out of a death spiral thanks to to the introduction of home gaming consoles.

Some 80s toys have shown remarkable staying power (Nintendo, Transformers, Star Wars, Voltron, My Little Pony) serving as the inspiration for film, television, and video game franchises and are still major parts of 21st century culture. Others (Food Fighters, Popples) have faded into obscurity, remembered mainly by those nostalgic for them from childhood.
