George Clooney Falls Victim to U.K. Floods
George Clooney has become the latest victim of the U.K. floods as the river near his English mansion has burst its banks and left his garden under water. The Hollywood actor bought the lavish $15 million home in Sonning, Berkshire, with his wife Amal in 2014, and the couple has been carrying out extensive renovations on the property.
It has now emerged the River Thames, which flows past the bottom of the actor’s garden, has burst its banks amid a wave of devastating floods in Britain, and the rising waters have left a large part of the grounds submerged. A picture published on Telegraph.co.uk shows flood waters covering a large part of the garden approaching the luxury house. Officials at Britain’s Environment Agency issued a flood warning for the village amid fears other properties could be under threat. Flooding has affected large parts of the U.K. in recent weeks as the country was battered by storms, and the disaster led to hundreds of residents being evacuated from their homes in northern England. Hollywood actor Michael Sheen recently called for donations to help victims just days after he sparked a backlash by suggesting the British government should not redirect foreign aid money to those affected. The Welsh actor came under fire after he appeared to suggest money earmarked for oversees charity projects should not be used to help the clean-up efforts at home, but he later clarified his comments and insisted help must be given to those affected by the floods. In a post on Twitter, the actor shared a link to a fundraising page taking donations for the flood victims, and added, “To be clear – absolute first priority of gov should be whatever support is needed to help those affected by floods… Where that money comes from and why this wasn’t prevented in first place are secondary to getting help to where it’s needed ASAP.”
