Reports have surfaced that Godzilla has been spotted in…okay, just joking. But if it’s not Godzilla, this guy is definitely a distant cousin. Last week, a crocodile was found stuck in a canal while hunting for food in Matara, Sri Lanka. Can’t blame it for getting stuck either, what with it being over 17 feet long and weighing close to one ton.
The hefty fellow was found stranded in the canal by villagers, and after contacting wildlife officials, they began to work together to get it back into the river. Finally, using a tractor and excavator, they were able to pretty much shove the behemoth back into the water.
That’s a big dude. In fact, this croc was nearly as big as Lolong (probably Godzilla’s other cousin), a saltwater crocodile captured in the Philippines. Lolong tipped the scales at a whopping 1.185 tons.
At least the crocodile was able to return to his habitat. Maybe it will adopt a weight loss regimen to avoid getting stuck in any more canals down the line. Just a thought.
