A small backyard fountain can add a lot of elegance and decorum to a simple yard.

The trickling sound of the fountain will make you think you’re in a rainforest and transform your straightforward yard. The tiny fountain is perfect for a small tabletop or for that blank corner in your garden. Check out how to take your backyard to the next level by making this super easy terra cotta fountain below.

To make this terra cotta fountain, you’ll need:

  • One 14-inch terra cotta saucer
  • One 7-inch terra cotta saucer
  • One 6-inch terra cotta saucer
  • Three 4-inch terra cotta saucer
  • One 6-inch flowerpot
  • One 4-inch flowerpot
  • Fountain pump
  • Plastic tubing
  • Silicone sealer
  • Clear sealer
  • Round file
  • Drill with a 3/8th Masonry Bit

First, start by prepping the flowerpots. Spray the 14-inch saucer with a clear sealer. Let it dry and repeat the steps twice, adding two more coats of spray. While the flowerpot is drying, take the remaining flowerpots and soak them in water for at least an hour. The flowerpots will be easier to file and drill holes into when they are damp.

Next, place the 7-inch saucer over a piece of wood and drill a hole into the center and place the plastic tubing through. If needed, use the file to help the plastic tubing fit into the hole. Next, file four notches in the lip of the 6-inch flowerpot. Keep one of the notches big enough so the power cord will fit though the notch when flipped over. Then, continue by filing four notches into the 4-inch saucers.

Then, take the 7-inch saucer and file a notch in the lip of the pot. After, attach the pump by connecting the plastic tubing to the pumps outlet. Turn the 6-inch pot upside down and place the tubing through the pre-made hole. Stack the 7-inch saucer on top of the pot and trim the plastic tubing to about half an inch tall. Seal the tube with the silicone sealant and let dry.

Next, take the 4-inch saucer with the four notches and put it on top of the plastic tubing. Turn the 4-inch pot upside down and place it next to the other column, putting the 6-inch saucer on top. Continue by placing the 4-inch saucer next to the column and place the remaining 4-inch saucer on top.

Finally, fill the base with water and plug the pump into an outlet. Let the water flow and adjust as needed. If you want, you can add some decorative plants or rocks to the fountain.
