Inspiring! Boy With Cerebral Palsy Finishes Triathlon Without His Walker
Bailey Matthews is an eight-year-old who has been fighting cerebral palsy his entire life. It’s pretty safe to say, Bailey is a courageous young man. But for those who may need physical evidence, take this incident from earlier this summer.
Bailey was competing in the Castle Howard Triathlon in North Yorkshire, England. The enduring race consists of a 100-meter lake swim, 4,000-meter bike ride, and a 1,300-meter run. Bailey, like others, finished the race, but what happened at the end makes this a truly amazing story. With the Finish Line in sight, Bailey set aside his walker and finished the race on his own over the last 20 meters. Watch the incredible video as the crowd comes to the sidelines to cheer young Bailey on. When he smiles with the crowd clapping all around him, it brought a tear to my eye! His mom, Julie Hardcastle, commented to The Yorkshire Post, “You can see his little face when he came round and saw everyone, that was his way of finishing in style and showing everyone what he could do. It was the response from the crowd that pushed him to do that.”
