Kanye West Says Controversial Song Lyric was Taylor Swift’s idea
Kanye West insists he did not slam Taylor Swift in his new track “Famous” because the pop star came up the lyric idea herself. The rapper debuted new material from his album The Life of Pablo during his New York Fashion Week presentation on Thursday and took aim at Swift in his track “Famous,” in which he raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, yeah I made that b**ch famous.”
In the rap, West is referencing the moment he stormed onstage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and grabbed the microphone off Swift as she was about to accept the Female Video of the Year award, because he felt Beyonce deserved to win instead. After news of the lyrics began circulating on the Internet, Swift’s representatives denied claims she approved of the song, insisting Swift declined to promote it on Twitter and “cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message…Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, ‘I made that b**ch famous.'” West has now disputed her team’s version of events in a lengthy Twitter rant in which he claims he was not trying to reignite their feud, because he was simply repeating an idea Swift came up with herself. Over a series of tweets, he wrote, “I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her… First thing is I’m an artist and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship… 2nd thing I asked my wife (Kim Kardashian) for her blessings and she was cool with it… “3rd thing I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings… 4th B**ch is an endearing term in hip hop like the word N**ga… 5th thing I’m not even gone take credit for the idea… it’s actually something Taylor came up with… “She was having dinner with one of our friends who’s (sic) name I will keep out of this and she told him…I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous! #FACTS.” He then continues to talk about music becoming “watered down” because artists are made out to be bad people for creating controversial lyrics. “6th Stop trying to demonize real artist… Stop trying to compromise art… That’s why music is so fucking watered down right now… 8th… They want to control us with money and perception and mute the culture…” https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146073190252545?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146205688320000?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146344242958336?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146450581164032?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146619703824384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146866098278400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698146943927787522?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Later, West seemed to be back to business after confirming the new album was being mastered and would be available later Friday. https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698175350854021120 https://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/698173679960788992
