Kerry Washington Is Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year
Actress Kerry Washington is heading to Harvard University after landing the Hasty Pudding drama society’s Woman of the Year award. The Scandal star has been invited to lead the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ annual parade in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on January 28 and take part in the troupe’s typically wacky ‘roast’ as its 2016 honoree.
“We are so excited to honor Kerry Washington as the Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year and welcome her to Cambridge to celebrate her many achievements,” Kennedy Edmonds, show producer and troupe member, stated. “Kerry is an amazing actress with many fans in the company, and the perfect choice for this honor… But we also feel a bit nervous as we set out to coordinate a perfect event for legendary PR whiz Olivia Pope (her character in Scandal)!” “If Kerry is anything like her on-screen character, she may turn the tables on us during her roast!” Bobby Fitzpatrick, president of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, added. She follows in the footsteps of Anne Hathaway, Dame Helen Mirren, and Amy Poehler, who received the accolade last year, and Washington can’t wait to join in the fun. “Uh-oh,” she wrote on Twitter. “Here we go… #HastyPudding #Honored So excited!!!!” The recipient of 2016’s Man of the Year accolade has yet to be announced. Chris Pratt claimed the award in 2015.
