LCD Soundsystem Pay Tribute to David Bowie at Coachella
The reunited Brooklyn band, who last toured in 2011, played a hit-laden set to the wild crowd, including “I Can Change,” “Tribulations” and “You Wanted a Hit.” They sampled “November Rain” as they performed their track “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” in homage to their fellow reunited headliners. Frontman James Murphy told the crowd that they had decided to cut down on talking during their set so they could fit more tracks in. “The last time we played here, Jay Z played after us and we were honored because we really like him, ” Murphy said of their Coachella performance in 2010. “But tonight he’s not here, and we’re sorry.” Towards the end of their set, he wearily announced “Two more,” as they launched into a stirring rendition of “Heroes” in tribute to iconic musician Bowie, who died in January. Prior to his death, Murphy worked with Bowie, remixing his track “Love Is Lost” in 2013. The rockers released their last album, “This is Happening,” back in 2010 before breaking up. They reunited and played their first live show in nearly five years back in March.
