This Little Girl Becoming Friends With Her Garbage Man Is Everything
A little girl by the name of Brooklyn looks forward to Thursday every week. Why? Because it’s garbage day. No, she doesn’t have some strange affinity for garbage. What she does have, though, is an affinity for her friendly neighborhood garbage man, Delvar Dopson.
It started about a year ago, according to Brooklyn’s mom’s Facebook post. Her mom, Traci Andracke, wrote that it “started with waving from the window, then we had to try and be outside to wave, and when we missed the truck driving by the house, I’d drive around the neighborhood to find the garbage truck and wave…” The mom writes that it thrilled her to see how much joy waving to Dopson brought her daughter. Her message was posted by the City of Bloomington – City Hall and already has 15,000 likes. The turning point came when Andracke and Brooklyn finally met the garbage man in person.
“Brooklyn and I wrapped up one of her birthday cupcakes and waited for him. When he came down our street, she ran to the corner. We were waving like usual and I motioned for him to come over by us. He pulled over, got out and gave us his BIG smile. Brooklyn was instantly speechless as she handed him the cupcake. I explained to him that he makes our day every Thursday, and we really appreciate the honking and waving, and how special of a day it is for us.”Dopson returned the compliment and said that he looked forward to seeing them too. “He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week,” Andracke wrote. She then revealed that Dopson doesn’t have any kids himself, but mentors several kids and “just loves them.” The next time they saw each other, Dopson brought presents for Brooklyn for her birthday. “So… to ‘our favorite awesome smiley garbage man’…,” Andracke concluded, “THANK YOU!!! (sic) Thank you for the joy that you bring Brooklyn every Thursday morning, for making her birthday special, and for making my heart happy. It may be a little thing that you do, but it means so much to us!” We’re pretty sure this friendship will last for a very long time.
