On a recent shopping trip, one mother witnessed a random act of kindness that surprised her so much she had to share it with whoever would listen, and now the internet is gobbling up this heartwarming story.

According to mother of two Jaclyn Schaeffer, while at the checkout of her local grocery store, she noticed her children were playing with the claw machine and that one of them had just won a new toy. It was odd because she knew the machine required money and neither one of her boys had asked for change. Her son Zander ran up to her and told Schaeffer he won a new stuffed animal and that a “nice teenager” had put money into the machine.

Schaeffer explained:

“The young man, Lamont, is a cashier who was on his break. No one asked him to put money in the machine so my boys could play, this humble, young man did it out of the goodness/kindness in his heart. The boys and I thanked him numerous times. Yes, I even called his manager to ‘share a good story’ for once.”

Schaeffer’s story of Lamont was quick to draw huge praise. The post on Love What Matters has garnered over 25,000 likes and nearly 1,500 shares in less than 24 hours.

One commenter said, “Wow. This young man has a heart of gold. Those young boys will remember this gesture for years to come and it will encourage them to do the same for others.”

For Schaeffer, she just wants to remind others that though we hear so much about bad things happening in the world, there is plenty of good and many people trying to make things better.

“There are still really good people in the world and as a mom, I’m glad to see that young people, like Lamont, are role models who are trying to make the world a better place for children,” concluded Schaeffer.
