Quentin Tarantino Lashes Out At Disney Over ‘Star Wars’ Stranglehold On Favorite Cinema
Quentin Tarantino has gone to war with Disney executives after revealing they blocked his plans to launch his new movie The Hateful Eight at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinerama Dome. The moviemaker told EW.com he had hoped the western would open in the Dome on Christmas Day, but Disney chiefs told Arclight bosses they would pull the new Star Wars film from their cinemas if they replaced it with Tarantino’s latest movie.
“A couple of days ago… the Disney distribution people came down to the ArcLight and said, ‘You’re going to break your commitment with The Hateful Eight and you’re going to not give them the theater on December 25th,” Quentin claimed “(They said) ‘You’re going to play Star Wars throughout the holiday season. And if you don’t, we’re going to pull the biggest movie ever made; we’re going to pull it from all the Arclight theaters’.” “So they actually, literally, are engaging in extortionist practices against us… They’re coming out to destroy us, to grind us into the gravel.” The new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, opens Friday, a week before Tarantino’s new movie hits cinemas in America.
