What would awards season be without a World War II film? Enter Denial, a new drama that takes a different approach on the classic WWII drama by taking a look at those who deny the Holocaust happened. After publishing Denying the Holocaust, Deborah E. Lipstadt (Rachel Weiez) is accused of libel by David Irving, a known Holocaust denier. The film then follows Lipstadt on her journey through the English legal system and the burden of proof system. It is then up to Lipstadt to prove the Holocaust actually happened, going against Irving who throws much more her way than originally expected.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
“Based on the acclaimed book “History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier,” “Denial” recounts Deborah E. Lipstadt’s (Academy Award-winner Rachel Weisz) legal battle for historical truth against David Irving (Cannes Award-winner Timothy Spall), who accused her of libel when she declared him a Holocaust denier. In the English legal system, the burden of proof is on the accused, therefore it was up to Lipstadt and her legal team to prove the essential truth that the Holocaust happened.”Tom Wilkinson, Mark Gatiss, and Andrew Scott will join Weiez in the historical drama. Denial, directed by Emmy winner Mick Jackson, hit theaters on September 30. Check out the full trailer below.
