Reese Witherspoon’s Lifestyle Firm Facing $5 Million Lawsuit
The company’s lines cover everything from clothing to cosmetics, and kitchenware to bed and bath products, but now the actress-turned-business owner has been accused of copying its blue-and-white flower-shaped logo from jeweler Jordann Weingartner’s Magnolia Collection brand. “She literally stole my magnolia,” Weingartner fumes to the New York Post. “I drew the design for my Magnolia Collection back in 2008. The flower isn’t a traditional magnolia flower, it is my artistic take on a magnolia. My design actually looks nothing like a magnolia, and Draper James not only took the design, but also decided to call it a magnolia.” The angry Florida resident, whose I Love Jewelry firm is a multi-million dollar business, believes Witherspoon and her team may have lifted the logo from a Magnolia Collection necklace Weingartner’s publicists had previously sent to the Oscar winner. The jeweler even took the complaint to Witherspoon’s lawyers before filing court papers in West Palm Beach, but she claims “they basically ignored us.” “So, we’re ready to fight,” Weingartner adds. She is seeking a cut of Draper James’ profits and wants all products carrying the logo to be pulled from retail. Representatives for Witherspoon have yet to comment on the allegations.
