Ryan Reynolds Confirms Josh Brolin’s Role in ‘Deadpool 2’
Actor Ryan Reynolds has confirmed Josh Brolin will play his reluctant superhero partner Cable in Deadpool 2.
The highly coveted role was sought after by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, with the most recent reports suggesting Michael Shannon had edged ahead on the contenders. But Brolin has landed the part, and Deadpool leading man Ryan Reynolds, celebrated his new cast-mate’s addition to the Marvel sequel by poking fun at the actors’ mutual casting history.
Taking to his Instagram account shortly after the casting news broke on Wednesday, the star wrote: “Fox… What in the horrendous f**k!? You can’t play two different characters in the same universe!!! It’ll never work. Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch. #NathanSummers”. Nathan Summers is the real name of fictional superhero Cable, who is considered to have a totally opposite personality from the foul-mouthed and outlandish mercenary Deadpool. Brolin also expressed his delight at playing Cable in another slapstick post he addressed to fans on his personal Instagram account.
“When you have a man-crush on Ryan Reynolds, what do you do? CRUSH IT!!!!! #deadpool2 #cable,” Brolin captioned a picture of an illustrated close-up portrait of his character from the Marvel Comics series. Deadpool made history as the most profitable film of 2016 for movie studio 20th Century Fox, with worldwide earnings of $782.6 million . The film has become the highest-grossing R-rated release in cinematic history, taking the title away from sci-fi classic The Matrix.
