Soul Singer Cuba Gooding Dead at 72
Veteran soul singer Cuba Gooding has died, aged 72. The body of Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr’s father was found dead in a silver Jaguar parked on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, California on Thursday.
Sources tell TMZ paramedics were called to the scene and attempted to resuscitate him but failed. Police suspect he died from an overdose. Gooding was the lead singer of the 1970s group The Main Ingredient, and enjoyed chart success in 1972 with “Everybody Plays the Fool.” Last year he released “Everybody’s Got to Vote” as part of a campaign to get African-Americans to the polls ahead of the presidential election. “We hope this song will inspire the masses to exercise their right to vote and not let any attempt at stopping them succeed,” he said. “The world is definitely changing… We had better do more than just hope that change will be good.” Gooding and his wife, Shirley, were married twice and they shared four kids together, including actors Cuba and Omar.
