Studio Where David Bowie Recorded Final Album to Close
No official reason has been given for the closure, but according to the New York Times, Rosenthal had tried to purchase the property, with the backing of Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl. However, their offer was rejected by board members at the housing co-operative. Bowie used The Magic Shop’s facilities to record Blackstar, which was released on his 69th birthday, just two days before the music icon’s death on January 10. His 2013 album, The Next Day, was also recorded there, while Norah Jones and the late Lou Reed are among the artists who have worked at the studio.
