Taylor Swift Donates $50,000 To Seattle Symphony
Taylor Swift handed $50,000 to the Seattle Symphony after she was moved by one of the Washington orchestra’s recordings.
The “Style” singer reached out to the symphony’s music director Ludovic Morlot by writing a letter praising their track “Become Ocean,” an environmental piece which earned them a Grammy Award and a Pulitzer Prize. “I was thrilled to hear that Taylor was moved by Become Ocean, like all of us at the Seattle Symphony,” Morlot told the New York Times. “This is a powerful piece with a unique soundscape. We’re especially thankful that she wishes to support our musicians, and that she shares our belief that all people should be able to experience symphonic music.” Swift’s donation will go towards two Seattle Symphony programs: the musicians’ pension fund and Link Up, a music education initiative for elementary students. The philanthropic pop star recently treated her 1989 tour crew to a vacation in Australia, where 125 staff visited Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef for a break.
