Trump Supporter Screams To Light Protester ‘On Fire’ At Vegas Rally
In a chaotic scene Monday at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas, a scuffle between supporters and protesters turned ugly when one Trump supporter shouted to “Light the motherf**ker on fire,” at a Black Lives Matter protester. Speaking ahead of the fifth Republican presidential debate in Vegas, there were multiple groups of supporters and protesters gathered for Trump, but the worst clash was captured by Buzzfeed reporter McKay Coppins.
During the incident, Black Lives Matter protester and minister Ender Austin III was being forcibly removed by casino security when he fell to the ground. In a video captured by Coppins, Austin is seen on the ground telling the security guards to remove their hands from him while a woman in the background repeatedly said, “Let him get up.” But then another voice is heard in the background saying, “Light the motherf**ker on fire.”
Buzzfeed reporter Coppins was able to identify the man as a Trump supporter. The words are especially terrifying considering the contentious racial history in America, where, for instance, Ku Klux Klan members would lynch and burn the bodies of African Americans. To add to the disturbing nature of the entire incident, Austin told Yahoo News, “I heard ‘Hail Trump!’ several times as though it were a Nazi youth or Hitler Youth group meeting or something of that nature. I heard a lot of rhetoric that definitely put me in the mind of Nazi Germany, not 2015 America.” It’s not the first time Trump and his supporters have been accused of racial insensitivity, and as long Trump remains the top candidate for the Republican nomination, it likely won’t be the last.
