UK Town Is in Need of a Hedgehog Officer
Lifestyle| | By Lauren Boudreau
Job alert! The best job ever is now available in Ipswich, United Kingdom. The job, you ask? Hedgehog Officer. Yes, it’s real and yes you can be an officer of hedgehogs.
The job was posted by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, which is looking for a conservation and hedgehog specialist to “lead an ambitious project” in making Ipswich a hedgehog-friendly place. Apparently, Ipswich is a hot spot for the little guys so they are trying to do everything they can to ensure their safety. Just because it has a cute title, though, doesn’t mean you should take this job lightly. It seems quite involved as the potential Hedgehog Officer is tasked with “leading and developing community-based conservation activities,” creating a “street by street network of hedgehog accessible habitat,” inspiring people to remove barriers in their gardens, and creating a friendly feeding, nesting, and hibernating environment across the town. It doesn’t stop there, though. You also have to be a “digital native, excited by the opportunities technology can bring to nature conservation. You will be a pioneer in using these technologies to involve and inspire people – and will feed your data into national research programmes,” the listing reads. Hey, whatever it takes to make Ipswich the hedgehop capital of the world. The job pays £24,000, about $31,000, and doesn’t list any specific qualification requirements. If you think you might be a fit, the closing date to apply is July 13. Better hurry!
