Summer is here and it’s most likely going to be a scorcher. But never fear, for there are many super cool ways to create shade in your backyard so you can still enjoy being outdoors while beating the heat!
Here are 10 innovative ways to create shade without breaking the bank.
A Teepee
This teepee looks like it might’ve cost a bundle at the store, but you could easily make one using sheets and a bit of engineering. The kids will love it and it will look trés unique in your backyard.
Raised Pavilion
This raised pavilion/meditation bed is the epidemy of modern meets hipster. Find some bright-colored sheets to hang for shade and stack pallet crates with cushions on top for the bed.
Chaise Lounges
If you want a super modern and chic backyard setup, this is for you. Grab a pair of the sleekest chaise lounges you can find (might be expensive), add an umbrella and voila – chic backyard complete.
Trampoline Lounge
This one is a lot easier if you already have a trampoline. Simply hang a canopy between a few trees for shade and add brightly-colored pillows to the trampoline. Make sure the trampoline is clean of acorns before you go laying on it or you might get some furry bedfellows!
Simple Patio Awning
This simple backyard awning not only provides shade, but adds an elegance and warmth to the space. Remember: Creating shade doesn’t necessarily have to be fancy or creative. Sometimes simple is best.
Country Courtyard
This retractable awning looks fabulous because it matches the overall aesthetic of the space. Retractable awnings are also great for creating an instant cafe/courtyard space just about anywhere.
Poolside Cabana
Another great and stylish way to create shade is with a poolside cabana. Who says you need to board a plane for a relaxing getaway?
Tiki Umbrella
Continue the resort-feel with a tiki umbrella!
Hanging Garden
It might not be the most practical way to create shade, but it certainly is the greenest, if you catch my drift. Depending on how many plants you hang, you may have lots of shade or just a little. Have fun with it!
Traditional Bright Umbrella
It may be a simple idea, but this umbrella looks spectacular because of the contrast it provides with the light-colored wood. Bright colors are always fun in summertime!
