If you’re in need of a smile, enjoy Nora the rescue dog’s story below.
Elizabeth Spence’s home is a busy one. She has three children, which of course can be a handful by itself. But the family has plenty of love to give, as evidenced by the five rescue pets who also live at the home.
“At any time of day you’re likely to find a pile of kids, cats, and/or dogs laying about the house somewhere,” Spence told The Dodo.
But their newest dog, Nora, wasn’t really fitting in.
“[Nora] came from an abusive background and is afraid of almost everything,” said Spence.
Everything, that is, except for 11-month-old Archie.
“Archie is an extremely laid-back, happy, good-natured baby and all the animals seem to really respond to that, particularly Nora,” said Spence. “She absolutely adores him.”
Nora is an 8-year-old pointer who was rescued from an abusive home, and it traumatized her to the point where she was terrified of just about everything, except for Archie.
Noticing the connection, Spence began to snap photos to share to her Instagram account, which now has over 119,000 followers. Judging by the photos, it’s clear that Nora has become Archie’s shadow no matter where they are in the house.
“If Archie is having a bath, Nora is lying on the bath mat waiting for him to get out,” said Spence. “If I’m nursing him she wants up on my lap, too. If he’s going through my cupboards throwing all the dishes on the floor, she’ll be there cheering him on.”
Spence hopes that her photo series can help shed light on the difficulties that large dogs in rescue shelters face when it comes to adoption. Many families worry that large dogs may end up hurting a small child, but Nora’s example shows that large dogs can adapt to any family situation, no matter how unlikely it may seem.
