Adele’s ’25’ Goes Diamond in Record Time
Adele’s album 25 has hit the coveted Diamond status in rapid time.
The British star’s third album has shifted 10 million certified units in the United States alone since its release in November 2015, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Adele previously went Diamond with her sophomore effort 21, which was released in 2011 and featured the singles “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You.”
The RIAA declared 21 hit the 10 million mark in November 2012, nearly two years after its January 2011 release, while her debut album 19 was certified at triple Platinum. The album’s lead single “Hello” has also been certified as seven-time Platinum.
Adele follows in the footsteps of Britney Spears, who achieved the same feat with 1999’s Baby One More Time and Oops I Did It Again in 2000. Mariah Carey, also has two Diamond certified albums, as does Canadian superstar Celine Dion.
Other albums to attain Diamond status include Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Billy Joel’s Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II and Pink Floyd’s The Wall.
The 28-year-old singer is currently promoting 25 on her Adele Live 2016 tour, which is slated to end November 21 in Phoenix, Arizona.
