When working in retail, the sight of a disgruntled customer coming back into the store is not what you want to see. For one bakery owner with cancer, though, it was exactly what she needed. She just didn’t know it yet.
Sharon is the owner of Mrs. C’s Cupcakes, a small bakery in Penrith, Australia, and a mother of four. Owning a small business is hard enough, but over the past few years, Sharon has been hit by a string of bad luck.
First, Sharon was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and then her younger brother passed away. On top of that, Sharon’s youngest son has a degenerative disease. Huge medical expenses racked up, forcing Sharon to fall behind on her business lease. And because of the long hours involved with operating the bakery, she couldn’t spend much time with her children.
Word of her struggles began to get out, and radio host Jackie O — from radio station KIIS 1065 — eventually caught wind of everything and decided to do something.
As seen in the video below, he radio host – with the help of an assistant – entered the shop pretending to be a dissatisfied customer, complaining about stale cupcakes with a funky flavor. When they walked in to complain, Sharon handled the situation with such a positive attitude that you can’t help but know what a kind, decent woman she really is. When Jackie presented the box of stale cupcakes to Sharon and told her to taste the cupcakes for herself, the baker opened the box to find an amazing surprise!
The cupcake box was filled with $10,000. Shocked and in awe, Sharon began to cry and said all of the things she wants to do with the extra money, including flying home for Christmas to visit her family.
