Beastie Boys Awarded Legal Fees After Copyright Lawsuit Win

Last year (2014), a jury at Manhattan federal court in New York ruled against the defendants after an eight-day trial, during which the energy drink company’s bosses admitted using the band’s music, including hits “Sabotage,” and “Make Some Noise,” in a 2012 online video tribute to late band member Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch without permission. Beastie-Boysw_original

The hip-hop group was awarded damages of $1.7 million, and earlier this year, an attorney for the hit-makers filed court papers asking for further funds to cover the stars’ legal costs.

On Monday, June 15th, a judge in New York City ordered Monster executives to hand over $668,000 to cover the Beastie Boys’ legal fees.
