Another doomed horse has been saved and is now living happily. His name is Bubbles and he was almost slaughtered in Mexico if not for Texas nonprofit Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue.
On December 16, the nonprofit shared on Facebook that an old gray horse — named Bubbles — slipped into a pack of mini donkeys as his great escape from getting slaughtered in a “kill lot.”
The staff members were in the area rescuing a bunch of donkeys who were either abused, neglected or abandoned when Bubbles walked right onto their trailer with his smaller animal cousins.
“We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the “freedom trailer” out of there,” the Facebook post read. “There was just no way we could leave him behind!”
According to Dallas television station KTVT, the organization’s president and a volunteer Sue Chapman paid $450 to keep him.
“Bubbles is doing great!” Chapman told Your Daily Dish. “He is thriving with all the attention and helping raise awareness for how great senior horses really are!”
She informed us that Bubbles’ story has allowed the nonprofit to now make a bigger impact on the world – with plans of testifying slaughter and educating more about what is happening with horses in the U.S.
And, the nonprofit received over $5,000 in donations due to the Facebook post which went viral – which they used to rescue two more horses!
“All thanks to an old, crumpled ear [sic] horse that planned his own escape,” remarked Chapman.
