It’s official! Thanks to the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly, the first look of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange is here!
With principal photography only just starting in November, the magazine cover shoot was the first time Cumberbatch stepped into the iconic costume.
“I’m still in the infancy of learning all that,” Cumberbatch told EW. “It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
The initial look of the costume shows that Marvel definitely took some inspiration from the classic comic book.
“Marvel is attempting to replicate the iconic comic book look… and with Doctor Strange sporting the Eye of Agamotto – the mystical amulet worn around his neck – it’s clear that we can expect some crossover with the comics,” Yahoo Movies explained.
“There’s going to be crazy s— going on.” Cumberbatch shared with EW.
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton join Cumberbatch on the big screen. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson, hits theaters November 14, 2016.
