You Won’t Be Blue This Summer Sipping on This New Blue Wine
Forget the rosé, this summer it’s all about the blue wine.
The “electric blue” wine, called Blue Nun, is the newest creation from Spanish wine company, Gik. According to Gik, “the wine is a blend of red and white grapes from four different areas in Spain: La Rioja, Castilla-La Mancha, León and Zaragoza.”
While it may be blue in appearance, the wine actually tastes like a really sweet white wine.
Blue Nun will pair nicely with sushi, nachos and guacamole, pasta carbonara, and smoked salmon, according to Eater.com.
“The wine is made electric blue using anthocyanin – a pigment found in grape skin – and indigo – a dye extracted from the Isatis tinctoria plant – as well as a non-caloric sweetener,” shared Eater.
Today wrote that the idea for the wine came from six “Spanish entrepreneurs who wanted to do something different.”

“We were raised in a country with a strong wine culture, but wine has always been a beverage put on a pedestal. So we thought about how it would be to have real people making wine for real people, not a wine made by experts to pseudo-connoisseurs,” co-founder Aritz López explained.
“Gik is born for fun. To shake things up a little and see what happens. To create something new. Something different,” it reads on Gik’s website.
And that they did!
Blue Nun is currently available for purchase in Spain and is hoping to become available in other countries in the next few months.
