You Can Now Own an Entire English Village
Many of us dream of someday ruling our own kingdoms. Who wouldn’t like to step out onto their balcony and think, “Everything the light touches is mine?”
Well, your kingdom-ruling dreams can become a reality, Simba.
Country Living reports that the English village of West Heslerton in North Yorkshire, U.K. is up for sale. Yes, that means the entire town, and it’s not cheap. The village can be yours for just $28.5 million.
The town was previously owned by Eve Dawnay, who inherited it from her father in 1964. Dawney passed away in 2010 and her beneficiaries decided to put the quaint, picturesque village up for sale.
Dawney was known for her kind soul and good heart. She kept rents low and the village is hoping to find someone who shares her compassionate outlook on life.
“Miss Dawnay was a wonderful lady,” said Tom Watson, of Cundalls real estate agency, which is handling the sale. “She was very kind and the property rents are, and have always been, very low.”
The expansive property includes Dawney’s 21-bedroom home, called West Heslerton Hall, 43 cottages, a sports pavilion, pub, and more than 2,000 acres of land.
Watson says Dawney’s altruistic nature is what helped build this vibrant community.
“This has helped keep a village community and there are obviously a lot of people hoping that somebody with a similar benevolent nature will come along to take over the estate. It would be perfect for somebody wanting to build up and leave a legacy.”
We couldn’t agree more.
