Carrie Fisher Reveals ‘Intense’ Affair With ‘Star Wars’ Co-Star Harrison Ford

Carrie Fisher had an affair with Harrison Ford when they shot the original Star Wars in 1976.

The actress starred as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, while Ford took on the role of her eventual on-screen love interest Han Solo. While rumors of a romance between the pair have been circulating for years, Fisher has finally confirmed the claims in her new memoir The Princess Diarist.

According to Fisher, the pair embarked on a clandestine romance after attending a birthday party for Star Wars creator George Lucas. Despite Ford being married to first wife Mary Marquardt at the time, his costar claims their affair continued for three months.

“It was so intense,” she told People of the love affair. “It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend… I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him. He was kind.”

Fisher was 19 years old at the time, while Ford was 33. Explaining her decision to come clean about the affair, the now 60-year-old star said she had been inspired to document the romance after coming across several of her journals from the time, in which she had written about her insecurity surrounding the affair.

One excerpt written after the pair’s first night of passion reads: “I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face… How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?”

According to People, Fisher gave Ford a heads up about what she was going to be writing about in the memoir and also sent him a draft. However, the actor didn’t respond to the publication’s request for comment on the affair allegations.

Ford and Marquardt had two children together but filed for divorce in 1979. He was later married to Melissa Mathison between 1983 and 2004, before marrying current wife Calista Flockhart in 2010. Fisher has only been married once – to singer Paul Simon from 1983 to 1984.

Both reprised their roles for Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year.
