Cliff-Climbing Proposal Gives Marriage a Rocky Start After Near Disaster

It looks like this marriage is already off to a rocky start.
27-year-old Michael Banks was rescued on Thursday after attempting to propose to his girlfriend on FaceTime from Morro Rock, a 600-foot cliff in California.
According to the Associated Press, Banks had no issue getting up the cliff, however he became stranded on the way down after he popped the question. Morro Bay Fire Captain, Todd Gailey, was able to rescue Banks, which was captured in a video and posted to the City of Morro Bay Facebook page. In the video, the daredevil is shown bracing for his life on a cliff while a first responder hangs from a cable attached to a helicopter trying to get him to safety.
“He couldn’t go any direction, on a sheer ledge, with his feet dangling 80-feet off the ground,” Gailey told the AP.
Weddings are expensive and this one will be no exception as the daring stunt came with a price.
According to the City of Morro Bay, climbing the 600-foot cliff is illegal. The city is asking that others not to follow in his footsteps.
“We hope folks will choose to view it from below, saving themselves and our fire responders time and money, and protecting everyone’s safety,” the city shared.
Banks is being fined for the chopper ride and “other related” costs.
But this proposal fail has a happy ending. Luckily, his bride-to-be did say yes!
