A child’s encounter with a stranger can be terrifying for a parent. However, for Colby and Alyssa Hacker, the recent meeting their son Owen had with an elderly man at Target had a much different impact.
The Hackers shared the story with Love What Matters. They first set the scene, explaining, “We were at Target waiting on Grammi, and we found some dinosaurs. Owen grabbed all [three], and we were trying to pick out which one he wanted when Owen abruptly yelled, ‘HI’ at this older man walking past us.”
The man responded to Owen’s call, much to Colby and Alyssa Hacker’s trepidation. They continued, “He turned around and said, ‘Hey, sweet boy.’ He proceeded to play dinosaurs with Owen. With this crazy world we live in, I was a little hesitant as to how close he was with Owen.”
The encounter took a meaningful turn when the man made a generous gesture toward Owen before revealing the reason for his kind actions.
The post continued, “The man got his wallet out and pulled $20 out, he put it in Owen’s pocket on his shirt and said, ‘I just lost my 2-year-old grandson last week. You take this money and buy this boy all three dinosaurs,’ and rubbed Owen’s back, wiped his tears, and walked off. After Owen yelled, ‘Thank you,’ the gentleman turned around, and yelled, ‘boomer sooner!'”
The encounter seemed to leave a massive impression on the Hackers, who ended her story simply with, “There is still some good in this world!”
Colby and Alyssa Hacker’s story, as shared by Love What Matters, has taken Facebook by storm in recent days. As of September 19, a mere two days after it was initially posted, the story has brought in 84,000 reactions, nearly 2,500 comments, and more than 13,000 shares.
