When this 5-year-old boy wasn’t satisfied with the normal options to tie his shoes, he took matters into his own hands.
In a now viral video, Colton Lillard shows off his brand new and innovative way to tie his shoes.
“My name is Colton — and this is a new way to tie shoes,” he says in his tutorial video.
Colton’s mom, Ashley, posted the video of her son tying his shoes on Facebook, thinking it was a clever and cute trick.
“Coolest shoe tying trick ever!!!” Ashley Lillard wrote on Facebook. “Posting to help anyone who is struggling like we were! Feel free to share”
According to Today, Colton Lillard “had been getting frustrated with tying his shoes the normal way because he’s left-handed and the steps needed be reversed for him.”
Luckily, his friend River was able to show him this one-of-a-kind trick.
Ashley Lillard had no idea the video would go viral when she posted it on Facebook. So far, it has been viewed over 11 million times and was featured on popular Facebook page, Love What Matters.
“It’s a terrible video for teaching — I was just doing it for us,” Ashley Lillard said to Today. “I wasn’t realizing I was doing it for you know, 9 million people.”
Many people have reached out in the comment section sharing how the video has helped their children with their shoe tying issues.
“Awesome! We did it!! My five yr old struggled so much and we have watched YouTube videos with no success. Watched this and did it right away!! He is so proud of himself!!”one user wrote.
“Thanks Colton for your very handy video. My 5-year-old has been struggling to get the hang of tying his shoes. One look at your vid and he’s now a pro!!” another shared.
The trick is even helping the elderly.
“It’s been crazy we’ve heard from a 50-year-old woman who had a stroke and can now tie her shoes, we’ve heard from thousands of parents,” Ashley Lillard told People. “It’s been amazing.”
