Julia and her best friend Walter have more in common than meets the eye. Julia is a young girl; Walter is an adorable puppy; and they were both born deaf. And now, thanks to Julia, they both know some sign language.
The Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA posted a video on their Facebook page that shows Julia teaching Walter the signs for “food,” “water,” and “sit.”
Once he was healthy and old enough for adoption, the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA put a picture of Walter up on their Facebook page. This is where Julia first saw Walter.
Julia and her mother fell in love with Walter just looking at his picture, and felt that love even more deeply when they met him in person.
“When I first held Julia, since she couldn’t really hear my voice, she would smell my neck,” says Julia’s mother. “And when I first held Walter, he did almost the same exact thing. I remember just looking at him and I just – I knew that he was meant to be ours.”
Since they met, Julia and Walter have been inseparable. Julia’s mom says that Walter “waits for her to finish her homework, and then they’re off to go play in the yard.”
Julia has learned “a whole other kind of love” through her special bond with Walter. “They were both meant to find each other,” Julia’s mom adds in the video.
Jamie Holeman, Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA community relations associate, tells ABC News that she hopes the video spreads the message, “There’s always someone out there for everyone.”
The message is definitely spreading. The heartwarming video featuring Julia and Walter has gained over 261,000 views (as of press time).
