New Wheelchair Gives Paralyzed Dog Second Chance at a Happy Life
When a sweet, adorable dog was found on the side of the road with paralyzed hind legs, veterinarians thought it best to put her down to keep her from suffering. But a dog wheelchair gave her a new lease on life and helped her find a forever home.
Victoria is a small, black and brown, short-haired dog. She was found on the side of the road, both her back legs paralyzed and dragging behind her. Despite the condition, Victoria had learned to move around using her front legs, but more importantly, was just as happy as any dog could be.
When she was rescued, veterinarians suggested that she be put down. She had a bad infection in one leg and it needed to be amputated. They feared keeping her alive might lead to more suffering than happiness. However, San Francisco-based animal rescue, Family Dog, knew that wasn’t the answer. They agreed to foster her until adoption. It looked like clear sailing from here on out for Victoria, but months later another setback threw it all out the window again.
After having one leg amputated, it turned out Victoria needed to have her other back leg removed. Still, Victoria persevered and remained as happy-go-lucky as ever when she received a new dog wheelchair that instantly improved her demeanor.
