Elton John Not Performing at Donald Trump’s Inauguration

Elton John’s representative has shut down reports suggesting the rock icon has been booked to perform at U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The “Rocket Man” star had been an outspoken supporter of Trump’s Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the run up to the election earlier this month, so fans were surprised to learn John had allegedly agreed to perform a show in Washington, D.C. in January.

Anthony Scaramucci, a key advisor to Trump, made the claim in an interview on BBC’s HARDtalk, saying, “Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the Mall for the inauguration.”

However, it appears the announcement was news to the singer himself and a spokesperson has since denied the singer will be helping to celebrate Trump’s election as the 45th President on January 20, 2017.

“This is incorrect,” the representative writes in a statement emailed to Pitchfork. “Elton will not be performing at Trump’s inauguration.”

John threw his support behind Clinton earlier this year and even joined her on the campaign trail, performing alongside Katy Perry at an I’m With Her Concert at New York’s fabled Radio City Music Hall in March.

The openly-gay star also made his feelings about Trump clear at a fundraiser for the former Secretary of State in October.

“We need a humanitarian in the White House, not a barbarian,” he declared, revealing he backed Clinton because she has long fought for “equality, decency, kindness and respect.”

John’s inauguration denial emerges days after Motley Crue rocker Vince Neil claimed he had been “uninvited” to the big gig, hours after revealing he would be hitting the stage on January 20.

He added to TMZ, “I don’t know who’s playing the inauguration, but God bless ’em!”
