There’s an old saying, “if the shoe fits, wear it.” But that has become a virtual challenge with the advent of online shoe shopping. Not all shoes sizes are created equal — which is based on the foot’s length and width.
Back in the day, when we would venture out of our homes to purchase shoes, there was a scientific method known as The Brannock Foot Measuring Device – a clunky piece of metal which captured the length, heel to-toe, heel-to-ball and width at the same time for the perfect fit. You can now buy the Brannock Foot Measuring Device online as well.
That might just as well become a paperweight according to the folks at Fitfully who have a created a way to virtually “try on” a pair of shoes at your convenience. Now all you need is your foot, your phone, a newspaper and a credit card to get your personalized proper shoe size before you click ‘add to cart’ from your favorite online shoe store.
It’s all done through a scanning process as illustrated by their YouTube video. Simply step onto the newspaper and trace your phone around your foot taking a 360-degree video. Then align the shoe you want from their online store – which seems to carry only Adidas at the moment – with your scanned foot photo. The credit card not only serves as a means of purchasing the app, but it also provides a comparative scale.
The app reads the size of your foot – green means ‘go’, a good fit, and red means ‘stop,’ too tight, while blue means you’ve got some wiggle room.

Fitfully is still in the testing phase, but it just might be a good fit to avoid the hassle of returns.
With the app, you can always share your customized foot video with friends and family.
