A viral video of a man punching a kangaroo is making its way around the internet – and it is causing quite a stir.
In the short clip, a kangaroo is attacking a dog. Luckily for the dog, a man runs up to the kangaroo, causing the kangaroo to leave the dog alone and focus on the man. The man then punches the kangaroo, giving him a nice shock to his face. Check out the altercation below.

According to Daily Mail, the man punching the kangaroo is 34-year-old Greig Tonkins, an elephant zookeeper, who was on a special hunting trip with a friend dying of cancer when the fight took place.
“This hunting trip was put together for a sick young man called Kailem who passed away from cancer last week,” Mathew Amor, a friend who helped plan the trip, told Australian news website News.com.au. “Basically Kailem wanted to catch a boar. And so a few of us got together to take him out, and another mate filmed more than an hour of video to put together as a DVD for Kailem and his family of the trip.”
Thankfully, both the kangaroo and the dog made it out without many bruises.
“My mate only stunned it,” Amor said. “His hand was OK, he didn’t hit it very hard at all. It was funny because the guy who did it is the most placid bloke. We laughed at him for chucking such a sh*t punch.”
Many people are now calling out Tonkins and his treatment of the kangaroo, especially since he works at a zoo. The zoo even released a statement sharing that further actions might be taken because of the intense situation.
“Taronga Western Plains Zoo can confirm that Greig Tonkins is an employee at Taronga Western Plains Zoo,” the spokesperson said. “Good animal welfare and the protection of Australian wildlife are of the utmost importance to Taronga. We are working with Mr. Tonkins to understand the exact circumstances of the event and will consider any appropriate action.”
While Tonkins and Amor’s friend passed away from cancer earlier this week, they believe he would have found this whole mess to be amusing.
“Kailem would be looking down from up there [heaven] and laughing because it was the highlight of the trip,” Amor said.
