Harry Potter Conjures Up A Spin-Off Of ‘Fantastic Beasts’
Do you believe in magic? You’ll believe it when you see the upcoming film trilogy Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Based on the book of the same name, Fantastic Beasts is a companion book to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Rowling is expected to make her screen writing debut with this film. And David Heyman, who produced the Harry Potter films, will serve as producer.
According to Rowling, the film takes place 70 years before Harry Potter and will focus on the adventures of Newton (Newt) Scamander in New York’s secret community of wizards and witches. Newt, who had been doing research on magical creatures since 1918, finally completes his research with a publication on the topic in 1927.
Eddie Redmayne, who recently starred as physicist Stephen Hawking in the film The Theory of Everything (2014), will be in the starring role as Newt Scamander.
The female lead will be played by Katherine Waterston, who appeared with Joaquin Phoenix in Inherent Vice (2014). She will play opposite Newt as Tina, or Porpentina, a witch who operates in the U.S.
