Many of us like to think of our pets as our best friends, our greatest companions, and in some cases, our most passionate guardians. Owners and their pets are able to create a strong connection that is rarely understood. But in the case of a stray dog, one can’t expect it to play the role of protector for a complete stranger, can we?
In August, a story surfaced of a stray pit bull who literally put his life on the line to save a woman in Baldwin, Georgia. The homeless dog was wandering the streets when he encountered the woman fighting with a man. Incredibly, when the man took out a knife to attack the woman, the pit bull intervened, getting stabbed a whopping five times but succeeding in scaring the man away and saving the woman.
After authorities were contacted, the pit bull, who was aptly named ‘Hero,’ was rushed to a vet’s office after-hours, where he underwent emergency surgery. He even died twice on the table, but miraculously, the brave pup pulled through.
After being treated, Hero was delivered to Fighting for the Bullys, a pit bull-rescue center in Tennessee, headed by Carla Patton Welch.
“They almost lost him, but they got him there [to the vet] just in the nick of time,” Welch told WBIR.
Such a hero deserves to have a home to call his own, and now, it has finally come. The Simpson family in Knoxville heard of Hero and his incredible story, and decided to adopt him:
Congratulations, Hero!
