Whether we like it or not, the selfie stick is here to stay. It’s a means of capturing ourselves within the times of our lives and represents an extension to those one-on-one moments – not to mention our arms. The selfie has made it possible to be included in every meaningful move we make to be shared with family and friends.

The invention of the selfie stick dates back to the 1980s when Hiroshi Ueda, an engineer for the camera company Minolta, experimented with an early ‘extender stick’ so he could insert himself in family photos. Wayne Fromm, a Canadian inventor who considers himself the father of the modern selfie stick, came up with a new and improved version that could withstand even the Arctic.

Just in time for the holidays comes a portable selfie stick, looking very much like a lipstick holder, that you can fit in your pocket or purse. Introducing Hey Stick, the most portable selfie stick in fashion according to their Indiegogo campaign. It fits right along with your portable sunglasses, portable cellphone and portable camera.

While most closed selfie sticks are nine inches, the Hey Stick is 6.3 inches – almost the size of a magic marker or number two pencil. It weighs less than four ounces, which they claim is the same as two eggs. Despite its mini-me size, Hey Stick is compatible with phone screen sizes up to 5.5 inches and extends out to a maximum length of 25 inches for those desired long shots.

The Hey Stick supports all smartphones and is made from the same material as your cell phone – aluminum alloys. Picture that combined with a sleek modern fashion element so you also look cool using it.

There is a three-step process which includes pulling out the ‘front spring bracket,’ which makes a snug diagonal fit for your phone. The stick then stretches to your desired length – looking like a thin telescope. It also comes with a table tripod that can be set up so you don’t miss a thing while dining with friends.

With just 15 days left, Hey Stick has already raised $13,499, well surpassing their $10,000 goal thanks to the generosity of 653 backers. If you act now, you can get 110 Hey Sticks in their Distributor Package for a donation of $2,000 – which just might make the perfect stocking stuffer for taking Christmas selfies.
